Advanced searching with OneSearch

OneSearch Advanced

OneSearch is a great tool for finding research but with so much available it can sometimes be hard to find exactly what you need. Advanced searching can really help focus your search. The techniques in this video can be used in all databases.

PICO searches

PICO  is a useful framework for building a search strategy. The 7 Steps guide below explains how a PICO search works and gives examples of how to use it for searching in Ebsco databases such as CINAHL, AMED or Medline

Systematic Reviews

Finding grey literature

The term "Grey literature" refers to materials and research not published through normal commercial or academic channels and where publication isn't the primary aim of the organization producing it. Types of documents may include reports, working papers, government documents, conference proceedings, theses, presentations, lecture notes, pamphlets, data & statistics. Organizations producing grey literature include government departments, private companies, charities, professional associations, academic institutions, consultants. For a fully comprehensive search of the literature you should include these sources in your search. To find these sources you may need to search the websites of particular organisations or you can use specialist search engines which cover grey literature
