Q: How can I register for an EndNote account?
A: Instructions for registering for an EndNote or EndNote Online account can be found
here
Q: I can’t find instructions for the database I want?
A: Most of the major databases are covered in the Getting started booklets. Please look
here for databases not covered in this document.
Q: Can I use Endnote Online with the Library catalogue or Onesearch?
A: Yes, both are compatible with EndNote. For instructions see the EndNote Desktop or EndNote Online tabs in this guide.
Q: Which referencing style do I use?
A: At the University of Brighton each school has it's own referencing guidelines. To find out which referencing style you should use consult your module handbook, a link to which can usually be found under Module Information in your course area in StudentCentral.
Q: Can I use Endnote with Pages or Open Office?
A: EndNote is compatible with Pages and with Open Office.
Q: When I log in I don’t have any referencing styles?
A: This will most likely be because your roaming access has expired. After the initial set up of an account you will have 365 days of roaming access (allowing you off-campus access) before you need to re-login via an authenticated pathway (e.g on campus or via Web of Science database). If you are on campus sign in to your EndNote account to reactivate. If you are off campus follow the instructions for registering off campus
here
Q: How can I edit my citations?
A: In Word click the citation you wish to edit and click the Edit citation button in the EndNote toolbar. Further instructions are
here
Q: Why can't I enter page numbers in my citations?
A: With some referencing styles the 'Pages' field is not recognised. Add the page numbers into the 'Suffix' field.
Q: Does my Endnote Online account expire?
A: No. But it will revert to an Endnote Basic account (limited styles and space) if you do not reactivate roaming access (see above). When your course finishes you will not be able to do this so your account will revert back to a EndNote Basic account.
Q: Why doesn't my Find it @Brighton box work?
A: When you import records from one of the library databases (CINAHL, Web of Science) it will also import the Find it @Brighton button which can be used to locate the full text of the article. If you are working off campus you will need to sign into EndNote Online via the
Web of Science to be able to use this function.
A: Instructions for using RefME with EndNote Desktop can be found here:
A: Instructions for using EndNote Online with RefME are below.
Q: I already have a reference list. Can I transfer references from Word into EndNote?
A: EndNote is not able to format references that have been manually typed in Word. If you only have a small number of references it may be easiest to search for these references again in Onesearch or Web of Science and import them into EndNote.
